It’s Videoblogging Week 2006, which means I have to come up with a video each day this week. I’m gonna try. Here’s my first installment, a little late but better than never. NetSquared Vlog
Along with the GETV stuff that’s been keeping me busy, I’m also doing a videoblog for NetSquared, a community that is a product of the good peeps over at CompuMentor and TechSoup. NetSquared’s mission is to turn on nonprofit organizations and world changers to “social web” technologies. Basically web 2.0 for the nonprofit set. I’m shooting and producing three videos a week, short form interview style of interesting people using technology in innovative, save humanity kind of ways. I’m also producing a weekly wrapup podcast for NetSquared that includes the audio from these videos. Check ’em out and let me know if there are any world changers out there that I should interview.
Video from GETV Turns 1000
The GETV turns 1000 party the other night was beyond control. Familiar faces filled the bubble along with a cadre of the newly minted internet famous. The Chuck Barris of Flash, producer Rick Abruzzo brought to life a round of not your father’s Jeopardy and two rounds of $25 Pyramid Scheme. Nina Rawkstah, Irene McGee and master of the House of Shields, Schlomo Rabinowitz faces off in Jeopardy. Schlomo took it home by knowing his moo milk from his man milk. Round one of the Pyramid had Eric Rice and our own Irina Slutsky representing for Team Egomaniac going up against David Sifry and Caterina Fake of Team Tagtastic. Round two had Ted Rheingold and Jason Schupp teamed up as the Filthy Pirates pitted against whom, I completely forgot. That ended in a draw, so no Cancun for these warriors. See for yourself. Simnuke: 60 Years After Trinity
I hit the desert with MGL and Ted this weekend for the experience that was Simnuke. Simnuke is the culmination of megatons of hard work by conscious fire artists who created a 1/10,000 scale of the infamous Trinity first nuclear test exactly 60 years ago. The simulation was created by the use of large fans fed with 400 gallons of pressurized biodiesel, going up in less than 30 seconds. Simnuke is meant as a reminder of the horror of nuclear weapons, something that many of us don’t really think about anymore in this post-Cold War world, myself included. Considering that the Bush administration spends more on nukes now than we did on average during the Cold War and that we are minting new would-be terrorists daily with western actions in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine it is a super important reality to keep in mind.
