Congrats to Bebo!

The news that Bebo has acquired AOL for $850 million is amazing news! Smaller, newer and more nimble companies acquiring old slow dinosaurs is really the only way to go. Just think how less evil Microsoft would be if Netscape acquired it? I predict Digg buys out the NY Times in the next year. Congrats to Bebo’s founders, Michael and Xochi Birch, a couple of very cool cats who followed their passion to their inevitable conclusion. One of the last LunchMeet shows I did while at PodTech was with Michael and Xochi.

Interviewed for Adobe Edge

I was asked to come up with a couple questions for Adobe Edge, a monthly newsletter aimed at users & developers of Adobe products. I asked about the compatibility of Quicktime in the new Adobe Flash Player now that is supports h.264. They gave me the right answer. No embed in their player unfortunately (!!), so you’ll have to link through to see it.

Damn zombies back again!

It seems as though the Double L gyroscopic undead attractor was activated last night which led to countless zombies converging on the San Francisco library where a debate among mayoral candidates was taking place. One mayoral candidate didn’t make it out alive. Chicken John Rinaldi was captured and turned into a zombie as this footage indicates. Best to stay away from the west coast of the US at all costs.

Cranky Geeks

Eddie on Cranky Geeks ep84

I’m making the rounds on the Sunday morning talk shows on the tubes. Well, ok, just one show, and it was Wednesday last week on Cranky Geeks, John Dvorak’s weekly talking head geek show thing. I guested with Keith Teare, CEO of Edgeio, which does something with distributed classified ads. Josh Wolf was also a guest recently on a show dedicated to the subject of citizen journalism. Definitely recommend that one.

When was the first time you were touched by the Squid tentacle?

That is the question I asked a cross-section of freaks at the Laughing Squid Paradise Lost party. Knowing Scott Beale and the communities that he has tracked over the past 10 years, I thought it’d be fun to find out how people first crossed paths with the entity known as Laughing Squid. Some people first knew of the Squid from what was originally called the Alpha Squids mailing list, some people know it as the generous web host, some from Burning Man, others from Scott’s event photography and even some newbies only from recent parties. The answers are as varied as the people brave enough to offer them up.

Rachel demos the KGB at Paradise Lost

Scott Beale does it again, throwing the only party that matters in this town. Ritual Roasters which is embedded at Flora Grubb Gardens where the party was held, were serving some interesting liquor packed coffee drinks and shots. Here’s a quick video of Miss Rachel Amazonia along with Ritual’s Eileen giving a demonstration on how the KGB shot is constructed and consumed. Shot on the awesome waterproof Sanyo Xacti E1 that Japanese videoblogger superstar Tajee hooked me up with.

The Future of Internet Video Panel

My panel went well. Packed house, 400+ peeps, standing room only. Having Internet rock stars on the panel probably had a little something to do with that. Hoping someone shot video of it, I don’t think SXSW did anything official. PC Magazine did a nice summary of the major points we hit. No, we were not the only panel to drink ourselves silly throughout. I think MJ downed a bottle of Jack on her panel.
